Welcome to Tahoe Donner. Here are a few tasks that will help you settle in.
You must obtain your Tahoe Donner mailbox through the United States Postal Service. There is a post office located downtown on Jibboom Street. Full-time residents qualify for these mailboxes first. Most second homeowners do not have mailboxes or simply use a PO box. UPS and Fed Ex deliver to homes in Tahoe Donner.
Tahoe-Truckee Sierra Disposal (TTSD) picks up trash in Tahoe Donner on Tuesdays. There are regulations per size and weight. Individual cans, bags, or containers must not exceed 32 gallons in volume or 60 pounds in weight. Cans should have tight-fitting lids that are not screw top. TTSD does not service the screw-top “bear-resistant” cans. Please call 530-583-0148 for more information.
During snowstorms, trash is still picked up as long as your bear bin is dug out and clear of snow.
Green bags (which are olive green to blend with the landscape) should not be heavier than 40 lbs. each and must be securely tied to be picked up. Duct tape works well, tie them to corner-to-corner, or use a zip tie. Do not put out more than four bags at a time. If they are not picked up, there will be a pink tag on the bag explaining the reason. They can be purchased from Member Services in bundles of five for $3.50.
Waste can be dropped off at Eastern Regional Landfill. There are dumpster days located at Tahoe Donner and other Truckee locations during the summer.
If you have more than four bags, you may bring the yard waste to the Eastern Regional Landfill station located at 645 W Lake Blvd #5, Tahoe City, CA 96145. No bags are required. Truckee Residents may drop off up to six yards for free between May 1st and October 31st. Bring ID for proof of residency.
For the months of May, June, July and August, Truckee residents may purchase up to two 6-yard capacity, yard waste-only dumpsters for $60 each. Dumpsters are intended to be loaded with loose yard waste material, which means no bags. Dumpsters also accommodate larger woody materials such as limbs and branches in addition to pine needles, pine cones, brush, and garden waste. Call Tahoe-Truckee Sierra Disposal at (530) 583-7800 for additional details and to reserve your dumpster.
To set up your electricity account for your property contact the Truckee Public Utilities District at (530) 587-3896.
